Mission
Connective Theatre Company is committed to telling stories that connect reason and emotion, provoke critical consciousness, and facilitate a path to action. Through partnerships with local organizations and community engagement, CTC hopes to not only create thrilling art, but to make a tangible impact on our city and the world at large.
CTC is allied with Broadway for Racial Justice to ensure our artists have the ability to work and thrive in a space that is free of racism. In being allied with BFRJ, CTC has pledged to elevate the standard of equity and inclusion for BIPOC through active and ongoing protocol changes. CTC pledges to unlearn practices that are rooted in white supremacy and to learn, within a relationship of accountability with BFRJ, how to create the safest possible space for artists to do their work. Connective Theatre Company was founded in the fall of 2018 as a collective of Chicago artists committed to creating diverse stories for the stage. In our first season, we produced One Flea Spare, a play by Naomi Wallace, Me Too Monologues, a semi-devised piece focusing on the stories of sexual assault survivors, a staged reading of Jane: Abortion and the Underground by Paula Kamen, and Morning in America, a piece of documentary theatre created by ensemble member Taylor McWilliams-Woods.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we created our first virtual play festival, Play(s) at Home, addressing the various experiences of people across the globe dealing with the beginnings of a global health crisis. We then followed up with Play(s) at Home: A Green Theatre Festival, focusing on the pandemic in relation to nature and environmental justice. Both festivals are available for viewing here.
